Similar Scents Series: Aroma Therapy Scents Part 1

I am trying to thin my shaving supplies a bit more, and one way I am doing that is by comparing soaps that have similar, if not identical, scents. I am also doing this to try to better define the different genres of scents in the traditional wet shaving world. I would classify 3 of the 4 in this shave as aromatherapeutics, meaning they have aroma therapy benefits and are generally scented with essential oil. Lavender and cedar wood take center stage on this one.

The first 4 soaps / creams in my scent comparison shaves.

I lathered up the 4 soaps and did 3 passes and a face wash.

The scent on St. James of London Lavender & Geranium was a bit too synthetic and unisex for my taste.

The Crown & Crane Lavender and Cedar was too lightly scented for me, which is an exception for that brand.

The Ariana & Evans and Shave Mercantile soaps were very similar in scent. Both are a woody lavender, meaning cedar wood forward.

The performance of all 4 were solid, but the Ariana & Evans Shave Butter’s slickness/glide is outstanding. You have to load a bit heavy though. When I say it is outstanding, I mean you cannot help but notice how much better it is.

Of the 4, I think the Ariana & Evans Wood & Lavender Shaving Butter is the keeper. While I wish the scent was a little stronger, more like the Shave Mercantile Lavenwood (Lumberjack Edition), the performance of the Shaving Butter stands out.

I used a Blackland Vector with a Feather Super Pro on its 5th use and a variety of synthetic brushes. I followed up the shave with A&E Wood & Lavender Rice Water Serum.
